Kaichou wa Maid Sama-Maid Sama

This is one of those girl animes that is focus on a girl who meets the perfect man. In this show, it is about a girl, Misaki, who works at a cosplay cafe. However, she encounters Usui, a classmate, while working. Her reputation as the student council president is on the line.

Misaki Ayuzawa
The strong and tough girl with a hot temper and vicious attitude towards males. Works hard at home to make her mother and sister happy. Also works hard at school: defends the timid females from the obscene male students as the student council president. As well as work: making sure not to burden anyone. In the end, she works hard for everyone, females and males.
Takumi Usui
The popular boy, holding admiration from females and respect from the males. Despite his looks and grades, he is aloof and a bit goofy for the most part. He is the kind of guy that just wants something interesting to do to rid his boredom. However, he meets Misaki while she is working at the cosplay cafe. As a result, he starts to get involved in her life.

There are other characters, from her school, workplace, home, etc. that make the show a bit more interesting. Some may be great, annoying, or just ehh. However, the show is mainly about these two with a lover coming in to spice the story up.

The overall plot is a bit cliche or stereotypical with a strong female being in love with prince charming and issues comes up. Either because of another lover comes in or family oppose the relationship. In the end, they are brought together after going through many obstacles. However, the author did a good job at making the story interesting and fun. With the aspect of male fantasy and female dreams combine to create this show.

This show would be easy for those unfamiliar with cosplay in Japan. Introducing some of the popular costumes that males and females enjoy. Can go from cat ears, glasses, to even gender switch (girls as guys). Just like Halloween in the US.
Note: Halloween is celebrated a bit different in Japan, apparently. More interested in haunted house and such.

The songs of this show is decent, nothing too amazing that you will fall in love with. Has that high voice pop and Japanese rock ending. For the music, ok, having the goofy and romantic feel, fitting the scenario. But overplayed too much, in every second of the show, there is some sort of tune that is playing to the point of...JUST STOP AND LET ME CONCENTRATE ON THEIR CONVERSATION.

The voice actors are ok, but they do grow on you. Personally, Usui is a bit too bland, but it's his character. So, there are a couple of bland voice acting due to the character's personality. But they do a good job on presenting the characters. The other problem is that this show overreacts too much, too make it funny, which may not be funny to some other people.

The animation for the show is typical, very proportional except for the chibi form (seen to the left). The most noticeable part of the characters is the shine in their hair to give that silky look. In real life, I wished I had that shine in my hair. But in all the characters are well drawn, even the background characters are attractive. Also they do a lot of chibi form, where the characters are so cute and tiny. They only differ with the eyes, being small pupil, and exaggerated looks. The background of the show is nothing too special but shows the everyday life of Japan. Small shops and the the school's dynamics.

Manga and anime differences are few. There are some scenes not added to the anime, but overall the same plot. But, the manga is still continuing, which has more plot and goes into more detail about Misaki and Usui's relationship. So anime for those who like open ended closing and manga for those who want closure.

The show does give us the idea that anything can be done by hardwork: job, school, relationships, etc. So one just needs to be themselves and true love will come to us at the right time and right moment. So don't worry and just keep walking forward.

This anime majorly shows Misaki surrounded by immature males. But she continues to defend them or at least give them a sort of discipline. As a result, even though we may see some people as idiotic or immature, we should continue to be decent to them. Cause in the end, one can never grow or change with negative and depressing attitude.

Verdict: When I saw this show I would just curl up in due to the corniness or just overly romantic feelings oozing out of this show. Great show for girls due to: attractive guy, decent main girl, sweet first love, etc. Guys, might  enjoy this show due to the cosplay. In the end, this show is for those who like that cheesy love story with a nice sprinkle of cosplay.
