Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro

Hayao Miyazaki first director role was in 1979, Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro. The plot is based off the popular character, Lupin III, a master thief. In the movie, he journeys to Cagliostro to steal something precious. In comparison, Disney has a similar movie, The Great Mouse Detective, created in 1986. Basil of Baker Street is solving a case, a father who was kidnapped by his nemesis.

Fullmetal Alchemist

This is one of those well known anime. The show concentrates on two brothers, Edward and Al, who decide to join the military as alchemist. Their objective is to search for the Philosopher's stone to restore something they lost.

Magi: The Kingdom of Magic-First Impression

This is the month for new animes. One of the most anticipated anime is Magi: The Kingdom of Magic. The first season, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic was a big success which is written in more detail at http://anniemayanime.blogspot.com/2013/06/magi-labyrinth-of-magic.html.

Attack on Titan

This show is one thing...gruesome. No shadow to cover up of dead bodies, instead we see blood splattering on faces and windows, everywhere. So the whole plot starts with a huge titan that breaks the wall of human civilization. As a result, many people die, including a Eren's mother. This drives Eren to become a soldier.
Titan: over sized humans-like creatures who are capable to consume humans.

Kuroko No Basket Season 2-First Impression

Kuroko no Basket came out with a new season, and I have to say it was a series that I have been looking forward to. Continuing on, the story is about a basketball team competing the Winter Cup, a basketball tournament.

The tall and snack loving player, whose team has not made a match appearance yet. This episode, we see he can be slow and very childlike.

Another American basketball player, who has a connection with Kagami. Being a strong player, he has greatly changed from his childhood days.

The first episode does well to introduce the characters for first timers. Especially the Generation of Miracles from the last season. As a result, I only listed the main characters and the newly introduced ones. However, again there are many other characters that can suit to any person. So many characters...So if none of the characters appeal to you, just keep watching.

The show starts off with basketball team preparing for the Winter Cup. During the episode, they are resting before the big tournament. During their break, they meet up with new characters who will be contenders in the Winter Cup.


The music is pretty good, there are some new additions to the soundtrack. One has a more ordinary life vibe A bit goofy compare to the usual soundtrack of season one. However, there are some good suspense music. As for the songs, right now just have to wait until it grows on me. Not all that great compare to the first season, even though the artist are the same.

The characters design is similar to first season, still have some awkward scenes. As a result, animation is the same.

With the manga, the anime for the episode is pretty loyal with a few deleted scenes from the manga. Such as the conversation which build up to Himuro first appearance. As a result, the manga is a bit better since it does a better job with transitioning into scenes and characters introduction. For right now, until the basketball matches are shown.


Voice actors for the show is the same from the season one. For the new characters, they are ok. Personally I was expecting Himuro to be a bit different. However, there is nothing wrong with the voice actors. It's just due to high expectations. With the English, pretty decent, but not really American. I believe it's Australian accent. Yes, good English speaking with only the past, not the others (Kagami and Himuro).

This was a nice first episode, from the well introduction to the dramatic start of a game. However, no basketball matches yet, which makes this show more enjoyable. Just not into the music right now, hopefully keep watching the series until it grows on me. A definite watch, not too intense but a watcher for fans who have been waiting.

Pokemon The Origin

So, this show is a makeover to the classic games, Pokemon Red and Blue. The plot is about two trainers who are given to the task to complete the Pokedex: device that records information on Pokemon that are caught.
*Pokemon: Pocket Monsters that can be used as pets or to battle other Pokemon.

Anime Song: Call Your Name (Attack on the Titan)

There are so many songs that deserve recognition, so lets start with this song! From the hot anime show, Attack the Titan, is Call Your Name. Not clear on the artist name but it is composed by Hiroyuki Sawano who has experience in the anime department.

Kaichou wa Maid Sama-Maid Sama

This is one of those girl animes that is focus on a girl who meets the perfect man. In this show, it is about a girl, Misaki, who works at a cosplay cafe. However, she encounters Usui, a classmate, while working. Her reputation as the student council president is on the line.

Naruto

During the 20th to 21st century Naruto was THE big show. I always heard some kid who played the soundtrack, especially the sad song theme. The story is a boy who becomes a ninja and wishes to be the strongest. The plot follows him and his teammates adventures as they accept missions.

Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun-Eight Dogs of the East

This is a long and unique name for an anime. But the story idea is based on a old time Japanese story. The plot consist of a boy who chose a curse life instead of death. Because of his choice he stays as a boy, never growing up. After a few years, the boy enters the church where he is given mission to find eight beads, or his past life brothers.

Pokemon: Indigo

Sorry for the wait but had to watch this series again since its been almost a long time since I saw the first season. If you are a 90's person, you had to seen this show or at least heard the opening of the song. The show is concentrated on about a boy name Ash who goes on an adventure to be a Pokemon master. Throughout his journey he captures Pokemon and use them to battle other Pokemon trainer.

Pokemon-Pocket Monsters. In other words they are monsters that appear animal-like. However, one can keep it in a ball which can be used to fight or be kept as pets.

Ouran

This show is a culture shock, especially for countries that are unfamiliar with host clubs. The overall plot is about Haru attending school, where only the rich and powerful attend. However, an accident occurs and now Haru is force to be part of the host club. The show revolves around the host club adventures showing us the life of rich people.

Wolf Children: Ame & Yuki

This was one of those movies that people had to watch. Not only was it a big hit, it was one of the biggest movies in 2012 for Japan. And its not a Studio Ghibli movie, so definitely for those who want something different. The plot is how a a woman falls in love with a wolf man and raises her wolf children.

Kuroshitsuji-Black Butler

Set in Britain, it has an overall dark and gloomy setting, different from other manga and anime. The show is revolved around a boy who made a contract with a devil. His goal is to find the people who humiliated him and make them suffer. The episodes are majorly about Ciel solving cases for the queen.

Fairy Tail

Fairy Tail that became a top anime with its proactive scenes and magical storyline. Not all wizards fights with wands and spells. The story is about a guild name Fairy Tail and their members partaking on various missions.

Karneval

This is a new anime, which I find enjoyable compare to the other shows that were appearing. It may not be the best show out there but still a decent watcher. The plot overall is a boy is trying to find his friend and his only clue is a bracelet. But he soon gets tangle up with a government organization-Circus.

Sword Art Online

This was a hot anime for the year 2012 and bit of 2013. The show was well done from the graphics to the plot. The show is about a virtual game where the people are stuck. To get out, they need to complete the game. However, there are no second chances.

Kuroko no Basket

This is a pretty good series, even if you are not a big sports or basketball fan, this series is still interesting. The plot starts off with the Generation of Miracles(GOM) who are the best middle school basketball players in Japan. They go to high school and part ways, all going to different teams. The story follows one member whose way of playing is unique. Along with his teammates, they deny all odds and try to beat the strongest teams in Japan. Overall its a underdog story about a basketball team.

Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East 2nd Season-First Reaction

I seen the first season of the show and I enjoyed it, especially since there wasn't much to watch at that time. The second season is continuation so there is not much difference between the two. Overall the the story is about the reincarnation of eight warriors who are brothers. The end goal is to reunite the eight for the church...or something.

Fruits Basket

This is an earlier anime and a GIRL show, so this is not for everyone. This show is pretty deep and a bit twisted. The story is a typical high school girl decides to lives in the woods but somehow gets into a situation, which makes her live with her high school classmate. She soon founds out there is a curse on his family, concerning with the 12 Zodiac.

Free-First Reaction

I heard about this anime being a series due to being popular on Tumblr. I saw the show and it was different...Most of the time I was trying to find out the reason for their actions. Like why does Rin pull his hat and yet takes it off in the end.

Spirited Away

Since its the beginning of the month I wanted to try to review movies as well. So here it is, this July movie is Spirited Away. Really, this was the movie where I truly started to respect and adore anime. From Studio Ghibli, they make amazing anime movies. So popular that Disney translate it to the English speaking audience. The overall plot is about a girl who somehow gets trapped in the spirit world, so she must work at a bath house to save her parents and herself.

Gintama

This is one of the few shows where I really burst out laughing, because of the stupidity or the genius of the show. Mostly because of the stupidity. However, it is a good show for a reason. There does not seem to be a solid plot, only the misadventures that happen with the Odd Jobs.

The Legend of Korra

This is also not an anime but I talked about Avatar: The Last Airbender, I also need to talk about The Legend of Korra. This is really a more mature and darker show compare to Avatar. But the plot is similar, the Avatar is reincarnated and must master the four elements to protect the world.
The characters are also completely different people compare compare to before.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

This is not about the movie where blue people appear, but a cartoon from Nickelodeon. Not really an anime but a cartoon that does need to be praised. Interesting is the show is strongly "Chinese" based, from the writing to the setting. The plot is about a boy who is an Avatar, person who is master of all four elements and brings peace to the world. With his friends he tries to master the elements to bring peace to end a 100 year war.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

This is a rare anime where it is not heavily Japanese influenced. Overall, the show is an Arabian story but the people just speak only Japanese. It is heavily originated from the One Thousand and One Nights story. But don't expect this anime to be like the book. The plot is around finding a king that unites all the counties under one reign. We follow the adventure of three characters.

Psycho-Pass

Psycho Pass is not really a kids anime if I were to put a rating...18+...maybe that was the extreme but there is quite a lot of blood, lesbians, and dark concept. The plot is about a world being ruled by the Sibyl System. The System created "Psycho-Pass" which takes personality and mind to decide the most happiness for a person. In a way, it controls a person life by making the decisions for them. To make sure the Sibyl System operates perfectly there are Inspectors and Enforcers who manage the public. In other words, police.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn-Home Tutor Reborn

Katekyo Hitman Reborn is one of those coming to young teen anime. It is not really for mature audience but it is a show where you can just watch without too much brain work.
The story consist of a young boy who meets his new home tutor, Reborn. His tutor is actually training him to be the next boss for the Vongola, a mafia family. He rejects, but is soon brought in to the mafia world whether he wants to or not.

One Piece

It would be hard to avoid this anime, it is pretty much the oldest and one of the best manga/anime out. There is really so much packed in this anime it would just take months to reach the current episode. Unless you don't sleep at all. The main plot of the story is a boy who wants to be Pirate King. That's it. But he ate a Devil Fruit and turn into a rubber man...

Detective Conan

In my days we didn't just mindlessly watch whatever was on TV. Seriously, I feel like that anime these days have no real creativity. During the 90s there was one anime that I enjoyed- Detective Conan or Case Closed. Not only was it interesting and fun, it was so different. The main reason is it actually showed death, not a blanket covering a dead corpse. It was an actual dead body, no fluff to hide the gruesome truth. The other main reason is that it makes you think. Maybe it's just me, but I need to figure out who the culprit is with the main character. Sometimes you get it wrong or right. Usually, the viewers don't solve the mysteries 100% right. Unless you are a genius, detective, part of the staff of Detective Conan, or someone who loves spoilers.
